IXPER® products offered by Solvay Chemicals International have very slight solubility in water.  In the presence of water at their natural pHs, they have the unique property to release slowly and continuously oxygen as follows :

2 CaO2 + 2 H2O  ->   2 Ca(OH)2 + O2 (g)

2 MgO2 + 2 H2O  ->   2 Mg(OH)2 + O2 (g)

In buffered systems with a pH substantially lower than their natural pHs and in acid medium, IXPER® products exhibit a different behavior.  They are becoming much soluble and generate progressively higher ratios of hydrogen peroxide.

CaO2 + 2 H+  ->   Ca2+ (aq) + H2O2

MgO2 + 2 H+  ->  Mg2+ (aq) + H2O2

The applications of IXPER® products are based on these particular properties and ability to generate a combination of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide under various conditions.  The release of calcium and magnesium hydroxide can also be advantageous in some applications.
